At the end of August, we organized the first SciComm Career & Networking Fair, bringing together a diverse group of science communication enthusiasts, professionals, and aspiring communicators. The idea was to provide a warm and inclusive opportunity for networking, collaboration, and inspiration, showing that opportunities in science communication are accessible to all—whether you are just starting out, or have lots of experience.
A plenary session with 10 science communicators highlighted the broad range of career possibilities in the field and their stories and diverse activities hopefully encouraged aspiring communicators to pursue their passion for sharing science.
Martijn Peters, Bethan Burnside, Brecht Hoedemaekers, Petra Vijncke, Bradley van Paridon, Idoya Lahortiga, Michael Creek, Siska Van Parys, Pieter Van Nuffel, and Marjolein Van Ginneken--all generously shared more about their respective journeys, offering invaluable insights into their day-to-day activities and the different ways they connect science with society.
We are excited to see the energy and ideas sparked at the event unfold into exciting new projects and partnerships, and to hear that many attendees found the courage and inspiration to take the next steps in their science communication journeys.
If you weren’t able to attend or didn’t get a chance to connect with everyone, feel free to reach out—we’re always eager to continue the conversation.
